VOICES OF ACTIVISM: CRAWFORD

An Evening of Documentary Theatre, Storytelling and Dialogue

Members of Unconditional Theatre traveled to Crawford, Texas, to interview people on all sides of the recent anti-war protests.  The resulting documentary play traces the journeys of some surprising activists who stepped out of their comfort zones to get involved.  It includes the voices of Camp Casey founders, soldiers who turned against the war, first-time activists, religious progressives, and counter-protesters from the "other side of the road".  Every word you'll hear comes from the actual people we met in Crawford, so join us for an evening of wisdom and inspiration.

Many believe that this vigil near George W. Bush's ranch reinvigorated the anti-war movement.  But public attention has focused primarily on Camp Casey's founder Cindy Sheehan.  This performance shares the remarkable, inspirational stories of other "regular people" who filled the camp and helped make it all possible.  Unconditional Theatre believes their stories can inspire people to take action in stopping the war.  And the insights of those on the "other side" can prepare us to engage in constructive dialogue across the ideological divide.

Part play-reading & part discussion, these events are a wonderful way to make contact with the current voices of change -- including your own.

Interested in Hosting a 'Voices of Activism' Event?

Unconditional Theatre can work with you to craft a unique event based around our performance.  We can provide a full two hours of material, including our dramatic reading and discussion, or we can perform just a segment of the script as part of a larger event.  Voices of Activism: Crawford is presented as a dramatic reading by local actors.  The event includes opportunities for audiences to participate, by offering feedback and sharing stories of their own. If you have members who might want to read roles, a script can be provided to them in advance and we’ll lead them through a few hours of rehearsal on the day of the performance.  This can be a fun way to involve members of your group and to attract additional audiences to the event.  If you have access to a projector, we will bring a laptop with images from Camp Casey, but the presentation also works well without them.
